What's the fuss over SOPA...& No We Dont Mean Abuela's Sopa!

If you were surfing the web last wednesday (1/19), we're sure that you noticed many of your favorite websites (like Google's above), that you visit on a daily basis, blacked out their sites. Confused as to why?

Here's the reason: they were protesting the PIPA (PROTECT IP Act) and SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) bills that – if passed – would give the government and companies the power to censor the internet.

It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting "creativity." These bills also will allow for the creation of an official internet directory, where only those sites that don’t “infringe on any copyright” will be featured.

Still don't get it? This video will help:

So basically, under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.

This bill would be the end of a various popular websites...it would be the end of...::gasp!:: Scene Stealers!! =(
Plus, according to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year.

Think this is bad look? You can help prevent it. Congress needs to hear from you, or this bill passes. Tell Congress not to censor the internet now!

Stay informed!!
