Urban Latino's Annual Music Issue Release Event at ROOFTOP 760!

Here's SI*SE performing "GO" a couple of weeks ago!

On Tuesday June 5th  Join  Urban Latino Magazine as they host their Annual Music Issue Release event (issue #101) .This exclusive soirée will be held at Rooftop 760 (AKA Copacabana's rooftop), situated in the heart of New York's Time Square at 6pm. The talented and eclectic group, SI*SE will perform live, introducing their new single EP "GO!." In addition photographer, Shirley Rodriguez will conduct a live photo shoot as she captures some of the hottest music artists for her upcoming book (due to come out in 2013). BET's Master of the Mix, DJ Mell Starr will also be part of the night's festivities, providing guests with great music! anddd guess what!?!? ... this will be OUR FIRST time actually having a spread on us in a magazine!!! We were part of BKNY's profile fashion section! We cant wait to show you the pics :D

Si*SE graces the cover of this Annual Music Issue and is known for their diverse bilingual sound and style. The fusion of electronic and hip hop beats combined with sultry vocals is what makes them stand out. Singer/DJ Carol C's voice evokes a sophisticated sensuality, singing in English and Spanish over producer Cliff Cristofaro's post-trip-hop grooves. The band includes drummer Ryan Farley, bassist Morgan Phillips, percussionist Neil Ochoa and Violinist Nicole Arena. Si*Se has shared the stage with Norah Jones, The Roots and James Brown to name a few. You might have heard the groups' music on TV shows like Sex in the City, Nip Tuck, One Tree Hill, Six Feet Under, Project Runway, Lipstick Jungle, CSI, MTV's Road Rules, and in various commercials.

Photographer, Shirley Rodriguez is also highlighted in this issue as she got behind the camera and posed for BKNY's printing fashion profile! Shirley Miranda-Rodriguez is a New York based photographer known mostly for her commercial and editorial work as well as fine art portraits particularly of innovative artists. Her commercial photography has been featured in Vibe, Crain's, Siempre Mujer, Latina, El Diario and Hispanic among other notable publications. In 2009 she shot the cover story on Ramon Rodríguez for Urban Latino magazine. Notable clients have included Olay, Fruit of the Loom, Girl Scouts of the USA, Simon & Schuster, Pantene, Isaac Mizrahi, Cover Girl and the HBO New York International Latino Film Festival, for whom she collaborated on the 2008 campaign that won HBO the PromaxBDA Bronze Award.

Mixed with a little Sazon...

Video Song: "Love Drug" - The Kickdrums
_____________________________________________________________________________

Hey Guys,

I hope you enjoyed our “Spotlight” of the month feature =) Do you have what it takes to become a "Spotlighter"? Or do you have a cool event/venue you would like for us to cover?  Well e-mail us at nyscenestealer@gmail.com, we got you !

with Kenny Ortega
Jess and I’s second home - Sazon Restaurant  - the tropical, sexy/sophisticated ambiance attracts a sense of tranquility and captures the culture and art of Puerto Rico. You all have to come by…especially Saturdays that's when the party really starts! You can find us both there, I work the lounge and she holds it down in the office. I love dabbling into this industry, it’s a perfect experience and a great way to get our foot in the door toward our future investment!

Have you heard Sazon shoutouts on x96.3? They play it every 5mins. They even shoutout our very own Chef Frank!! Jess and I hung out with DJ Sleepy from the (x93.6) Luis Jimenez Show! We had an interesting outing after a night at Sazon lol. We actually found out his big sister is singer, Lumidee.

with Victor Cruz
Urban Latino always manage to have our after-party events at the venue! Last week was a perfect example for that. We had our Acoustic Wednesday there (check Jess's post for the 411) and we also hosted the 100 Hispanic Men after-party! The 100 Hispanic Men produced a Comedy Fundraiser at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre. The non-profit organization started out as a forum for Hispanic men in 2006. Today, it is a platform for Hispanic men with diverse backgrounds and careers. Through networking and community involvement, their goal is to form new possibilities for young people, build groundbreaking programs and revitalized communities. The evening was hosted by Kenny Ortega (Urban Latino Radio, SiTV Latino Laugh Festival, MTV Tr3s). Not only did he make people cry out of laughter, he also introduced the following comedians: Victor Cruz (SiTV Latino Laugh Festival, Law & Order), Gina Brillion (Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, MTV Tr3s) and Vladimir Caamano (Stand Up 360 at the Movies, Comic Quikies). The night was so funny!

#FunFact - Laughter can help relieve pain, bring greater happiness, and even increase immunity! Its good for the Soul and Body =).

Anyway you guys! I have to run off and get some sleep. Today is going to be a long day/night. We are working the LQs event where Alex Sensation and Johnnie Walker Black Label will announce their partnership. It should be a good night! ;)

xo, Samantha

Song of the Week:   "Fired Up" - Funky Dog  (This song always gets me pumped up for work!! It makes me almost want to fist pump lol).

What is up!

Haha, so I bet you all thought Samantha and I wouldn't put another post up this month...but you were wrong!! (lol) Nah, but we do honestly apologize for not putting our posts up in a timely manner, we're still trying to get used to our busy schedules.  It's hard, but I think little by little we're finding our groove and are managing our time better between our multiple jobs and projects. As always though, thanks for checking in with us!

Zeitlin Perez
So this week was all about our third home, Sazon (1st being out actual homes (lol) and 2nd being Urban Latino).  We attended GIVEN Liqueur's Acoustic Wednesday which featured LIVE performances from our friends, Zeitlin Perez, Joshua Torrez and new up-and-comer, Prez.

Zeitlin Perez has performed for Merengue pioneers: Rubby Perez, Johnny Ventura, and The Henry Jimenez band. But her main highlight came from being on tour with Grammy award winning Dominican Merengue singer, Milly Quezada also known as the Merengue queen. Zeitlin’s range of music varies from R&B, Salsa, Spanish rock - but her heart will always be Merengue! She wants to follow the footsteps of Milly Quezada, but also strives to be able to sing in both worlds (English and Spanish).

Joshua Torrez
Vocalist and Guitarist Joshua Torrez  is originally from Chicago. The artist is so young and talented, with an old but wise soul that transfers into his songs - his music is definitely reminiscent of Al Green.

Prez from IME Records added the "Hip Hop" element to Wednesday's performance. The South Jamaica, Queens native performed his latest work, based on his trial and tribulations. "Hip Hop allows people to express themselves in a free manner, and allows different races and religions to meet on common ground.” stated the young MC.

Prez
It was a great night that showcased lots of talent!  Later on that week, Samantha worked the 100 Hispanic Men Comedy event at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre with Kenny Ortega, Victor Cruz, Gina Brillion and Vladimir Caamano (read her post for more details). The after-party was at Sazon, where I was working. So Samantha filled me in on all the hilarious jokes from that night.

Hope you enjoyed this week's blog and video!! Have an awesome week =)

xo, Jessica

"Starstruck..."

Video Song: Dirty Talk - Wynter Gordon & David Guetta

______________________

Hey Guys!

Bobby Flay & Frank Maldonado
So this past week was a celebrity filled one! I was even on E! Entertainment (lol).

I was so grateful to be part of a private taping that took place at my other gig SAZON. I can’t really go into details even though I would love to, but I signed a contract :X What I can tell you is that I was supporting CHEF FRANK MALDONADO to the fullest! I’m so proud of him and what he has accomplished. He is the restaurant's executive chef! He is straight from Puerto Rico, so the food here is as authentic as it gets! He has done a couple of television appearances and is currently working on his book, so he is definitely on the road to becoming a well known LATINO CHEF! I actually had the pleasure to bumping into celebrity Chef Bobby Flay during that production. This show will air within 3 months on a very well known NETWORK! I promise I will let you know when it happens.

Speaking of “bumping into”…

Being yelled at by Khloe =/
After the Sazon taping I was notified that the Kardashians were around the corner. I wanted to invite them over to our restaurant, so I walked over. It turns out that they were taping “Keeping up with the Kardashians” at the Smyth Tribeca. It’s crazy how their fans know exactly what their every move is-- especially the paparazzi!  When they came out of the store all mayhem broke loose! Khloe Kardashian was even pushed and she thought it was by ME!  She YELLED “Don’t Push Me!” looking straight into my eyes!  I was shocked because I was the one who was getting rammed!  I was even more astonished when I found out I was on E! the next day.

Check out the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEpKxkf1AhQ. Go to 00:53. I’m the one with the blue phone. Its pretty funny!

(So Khloe if you are reading this or watched the video I hope you know it WASN’T ME!!! By the way KUWTK is my guilty pleasure & so is your brother lol :p)

Paul w/ wife & 100 Hispanic Men e-board
On Saturday, we wrapped up Villa with a special ceremony for actor, Paul Calderon on behalf of the organization, 100 Hispanic Men. They awarded him with the 1st annual Arts Award! It went pretty lovely; the evening was filled with dancing, food and tons of mingling. I was also thankful and in awe when he mentioned me during his acceptance speech (thanks Paul!). CEO and publisher of El Diario La Prensa, Rossana Rosado was also at attendance. Jess and I had a brief chit chat with her. It was a very influential moment to have a powerful Latina like her at our event!

As you can see there was tons of lights, cameras action going on --  Jess and I are starting to feel like “Mini Celebrities”. We’ve been recognized a couple of times this week as the “Scene Stealer” girls! It sincerely means so much that you guys are interested and tuning in on us! So thank you once again!

Remember just follow your heart & dreams …

P.S- Don’t forget to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month! And if you are doing the walk this Sunday, October 17 -- let us know so we can walk and help together!! <3

What up!

A starstruck week indeed!

Best Buy Theater
Tuesday, October 5th I was lucky enough to attend the SO Kodak Concert series here in NYC at the Best Buy Theatre (former Nokia Theatre). "So Kodak" is apparently a phrase Kodak consumers use to refer to the state of mind that one has when he or she feels that they are looking their hottest or when they are socializing in a place or with people that are considered hip or popular (bbm "huh?" face). Although I've never heard of the phrase (::shrugging shoulders::), Kodak launched this fall with this exciting new advertising and public relations campaign featuring recording artists, Drake, Trey Songz and Pitbull

So many eager fans (who won tickets via twitter, fan clubs and radio stations) arrived hours before the SO Kodak performance was scheduled to start, just to stand in line...and let me tell you that line was ridiculous! Inside the Best Buy Theatre, fans got the opportunity to check out the new Kodak digital cameras and test out how the Kodak share button (featured in the SO Kodak commercials) work. It's actually a pretty cool feature, where all you have to do is press the share button on your camera and in 3 simple steps you can upload your pictures and video to facebook, flickr, twitter, youtube, Kodak gallery site or your e-mail.

Before the show got underway, fans got a video message from Pitbull, regrettably informing the audience that due to injury to his hand, he was unable to fly to be at the show (womp, womp)...but as they say the show must go on and it did, with Trey Songz and Drake.

Trey Songz performing
Trey Songz had the audience going crazy with his performance and I'm sure all the "Trey's Angels" were not disappointed. Then it was Drake's turn to bring down the house. Both performances were rather short and it would have been awesome to see the two on stage performing songs they have together...but it was undoubtably a good time.  At the end of the show, there was a surprise video from Rihanna, introducing her as a new part of the SO Kodak campaign.

DJ Jenncity
Thursday, October 14th I was in downtown Brooklyn to attend the Pabst Blue Ribbon Pop Up Shop event. The event featured Do-It-Yourself custom Pabst Blue Ribbon swag (by Arrows Up, Shock Vintage Shock Star, The J's, Laura Rebel Angel & BFTP), interactive live screen printing (by BKNY Printing, S/O to Jose!) a Pabst-inspired fashion show and boutique (by New York Couture, Minnae Chae), Blue Carpet Photobooth (by Its Wet Paint), and live performance by local celebrity rap stars, NinjasonikDJ Jenncity and DJ Roofeo brought the whole event together into one huge party spinning the best of everything. I had a great time, designing my own t-shirts, taking pics, listening to music and of course drinking some Pabst Blue Ribbon. It was cool funky Brooklyn kinda night (lol). What was also great about this event, all the proceeds benefited the Keep-a-Breast Foundation, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

T provided by BKNY Printing
Samantha and I have been inspired by all the breast cancer donations and support (NFL players never looked so sexy in pink!) that we are participating in the Walking Stride Against Breast Cancer with our sorority, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. this Sunday in Queens, NY. If you'd like to make a donation, please click here.

Well, here's to another fun filled week! Catch you next week =)
